Location Age - a historic building

Three steep flights of stairs to room without a lift. Given my dubious health a major disadvantage which will deter me from using it again. This info should be on the website so people booking are pre-warned. Staff did offer help with bag but even unladen the stairs were a struggle. Would recommend BUT only with provision of warning about stairs and no lift.

The only good thing I can say is the location is good for Queen's Street & downtown, and good hot water pressure in the shower.

The restaurant did not appear to be open, I would struggle to call it a "boutique hotel". They do not brew their own beer on site (as told by a barman), the "front desk" is the bar which is open all night. The room was tired, the wardrobe is a shop clothes rail, the "ensuite" bathroom is an after thought addition ( an adult could not sit properly on the toilet as it was so close to the shower cubicle). Only 3 channels were clear on the tv (no remote), No decent curtains to shut out the street lights. As soon as the staff find out who I was, the next statement was $99 please. I do not believe the advertising for this accommodation on this web site is accurate. I think I could get a better room for a cheaper price with good location.

The location to all things in the city.Restaurants and cafes, pubs and shops all within walking distance.

The noise from the street at night and early morning was hard to put up with.Being an older style room the windows were far from soundproof.

It nearly felt like we were sleeping on the street because it was sooo loud outside. Maybe they should offer earplugs? I slept with a pillow over my head.

Close to town. Cheap. Easy to get in and out of. No muck around with check in and check out.

    Location in the city

Room too small, under roof with peaople running on roof at night

Character building in the city centre at a great price

That it was close to the CBD

A tiny room (rm 11) if that was a superior room I would hate to stay in a standard room. The tv had one channel no remote The rooms were supposed to have harbour views mine faced a fire escape The restaurant seemed to be non existent The whole building smelt like an old smokey pub especially the stairways

Great location for what we wanted to do in Auckland, service was outstanding and party was great in bar

It was in the centre of town. That was the only advantage.

We were charged 350NZD for one night. The only reason was the fact that it was the opening night of the Rugby World cup. All the other hotels were fully booked. The normal price is below or around the 125NZD. It was a rip-off to be charged so much, but had little choice as other hotels were already booked.I have to say, it is a common theme around this Rugby World Cup that prices for hotels have been disgracefully high.

    No fuss

Some noise at night due to location (City centre) but not bad and expected.

I liked the location and the price, the staff were friendly, bed comfortable and the beer brewed at the hotel was yummy!

We had to walk up and down 3 flights of stairs to have a ciggerette and the rooms were a bit on the small side.

The Shakespeare Hotel staff were very friendly. The food also good. It is an all night Pub and little noisy late in the night. It is also a brewery and I found the beers very delicious. Not only can you dine in pub, there is resturant and bar on 2nd floor with a large terrace. The hotel is a beautiful old building, but be prepared to walk up 3 flights of stairs. It has a great location in downtown Auckland. I would definitely stay again.

Great value for money if you are staying a short time in Auckland. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar downstairs had a great atmosphere and good happy hour much to our suprise!

Good and very friendly staf, great location.

Very small room, clean service, check in, if you arrive early to Auckland you have to wait until 2 pm to get access to the room. Only limited number of Tv channel, coz the tv are actualy a pc monitor, very bad tv signal and no cable tv.
